A few easy checks will sort out the problem for you,
Can you see any oil leak? if so you will need to purchase a oil seal kit and fit it, messy and time consuming
if not any leaks;
Manual release the unit
slowly push the gate to the open position
unscrew the filler cap on the unit
there should be visible oil near the top (the oil goes down when the gate is closed)
top up if needed
reassemble the unit
run the gate a few times to bleed any air out of the system
all should be ok now
