Hi All, i am new to access control and electric gates but i am a qualified electrician, anyway my situation is this, we do electrical maintenance on a school they have access control on the gates and all the entrances, its all working well apart from the car park gate which is 6 meters wide and of steel box section construction, so i assume they have some weight, they do not close fully leaving about a 6 inch gap but this is just one of the many intermittent probs these gates have like not re closing at all. my thoughts are the rams are not the correct type as at the point of these faults o curing the car park is in heavy use and the rams themselves get very very hot and powering down the system for half an hour sorts out most problems,my thought is to change these rams, my other thought is can i fit them at the top of the gate rather than the bottom, reason being the caretaker complains of kids jumping on and off the rams, they asked me to take over the maintenance as we have worked on the school for many years and they have had bad experience with the original contractor, any ideas would be rely appreciated as i am new to the whole thing but feel under obligation to help.
