LYN300/400 - thermiclance - 29-10-2012

Hi could anyone please help me.
I have just got back from holiday to find my E/Gates not working.
The system is i believe a LYN300 or 400 its the 240v version.
i have a pair of photocells and a GSM network box inside - ie you can dial the number on the sim card and your gates open.

However - on arriving home the gates were already in the open position wasn't to worried an till my next door neighbour came around and said the gates were making a terriable noise?
I went to investigate and the gates were on a constant shuddering cycle?
So i done what all technical advisers state reboot the system.
I turned the circuit off for several minutes then back on, the shuddering had stopped.
When i used the remote or the GSM system the gates just shuddered.
The only way to open and close is manually - hard life!
Investigated further i opened the controller box - Inside was as dry as a kangaroos jock strap, no moisture etc however i noted some flashing lights?
There was a green light not flashing and three others all next to one another the two on the left were flashing quicker then the one on the right.?
These were above the three tiny learn buttons. And they said something about photocells in teeny weeny wrighting.

I checked the photocells in the driveway and they were flashing?( little LEDs inside the photocells)
I don't seem to remember the red LEDs flashing before?
I blocked the beam with my hand and the flashing frequency seemed to increase or did it slow down. What ever happened - When I walked in front or broke the beam it registerd something. This told me that these were working OK ie not dirty or anything.

I'm not in possession of the installation manual anymore so i cannot find any FAQs on the subject ie lights giving me a diagnostic indication.
I have been online for instructions but cannot seem to find any? Maybe I'm not seeing the wood for the trees.
Any help would be - Helpfull....!
Danny.
